A common misconception is that wind turbines produce excessive noise, often cited as a significant drawback to wind energy. However, recent research and technological advancements have shown that the noise produced by modern wind turbines is generally low and comparable to everyday sounds.(1)Studies have measured wind turbine noise from buildings located 500–1500 ft from turbines, showing interior noise levels of ~ 42.0 dBA, and exterior levels of ~ 44dBA in summer, which are comprable to a refrigerator hum of ~40dBA.(3). Modern wind turbines continue to get quieter, incorporating innovative blade designs and better insulation, drastically reducing noise compared to older models.(5)
