The claim that wind turbines frequently collapse or have blades that break off, posing significant threats to human health and safety, is not supported by scientific evidence.(1) Modern wind turbines are engineered with advanced safety mechanisms and structural improvements that drastically reduce the likelihood of such incidents. As of 2014, fewer than 40 incidents of blade breakage had been reported among more than 40,000 turbines installed in the U.S., according to the U.S. Department of Energy.(2) These numbers illustrate how uncommon such events are, debunking the myth that broken blades pose a major health hazard.Wind energy is far safer than fossil fuels, with coal causing over 800 times more deaths and oil causing over 450 times more deaths per unit energy produced.(3)
