NECEC, the leading voice of the clean energy industry in the Northeast, commends today’s important announcement from the Transportation & Climate Initiative (TCI) of a major milestone in the development of a regional clean transportation policy. The nine states and jurisdictions intend to develop a market-based system to reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector and and promote clean transportation solutions. They include nearly all of the New England states (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont), as well as several Mid-Atlantic states and Washington, D.C.

“The Northeast Clean Energy Council is excited to see a regional effort to advance clean transportation finally bearing fruit. We applaud the nine participating states and Washington, D.C., for their leadership,” said NECEC President Peter Rothstein. “NECEC and our member companies look forward to building on today’s commitment. Together, we can create a modern, non-emitting transportation system that works for our economy and our environment.”

Earlier this year, NECEC launched a new Clean Transportation Working Group bringing together leading transportation companies in the Northeast. The creation of this group is reflective of the urgent need to address carbon emissions from the transportation sector and the broadening priorities of clean energy organizations in the region. Together, the group will tackle such issues as zero-emission vehicle growth, charging station infrastructure, innovative business models/partnerships for transportation systems, and support for pilots/demonstration projects, and will support the design and implementation of the regional clean transportation policy announced today.
